The gap between an amateur profile and a professional one is usually five fixable things. Here they are.
We review a lot of athlete profiles. The talented ones and the overlooked ones often look surprisingly similar — the difference is rarely ability. It’s a handful of missing pieces. Fix these five and your profile immediately reads as more serious.
1. A clear statement of who you are
Most profiles make you guess. Position, foot, height, age, current level — a decision-maker shouldn’t have to hunt for the basics. Put them up front, plainly. The moment someone has to work to understand you, you’ve lost them.
2. Footage that proves the specific thing you claim
“Fast winger” means nothing without a clip of you beating a defender for pace. Every claim you make about yourself should have evidence sitting right next to it. Claims without proof read as hope; proof reads as fact.
3. Context around the clips
A goal against unknown opposition is a mystery. The same goal labelled with the competition, the level and the date becomes information a scout can actually use. Context is what turns a nice video into a credible one.
4. A reason to believe it’s current
An account that hasn’t moved in eight months looks like a career that’s stalled. Recency signals momentum. You don’t need to post constantly — you need to look active enough that someone believes you’re still playing, still improving, still available.
5. An obvious next step
Say a scout is impressed. What do they do now? If there’s no clear way to reach you or register interest, the opportunity evaporates. Every serious profile makes the next step obvious — a clear, professional point of contact.
