Instagram Isn't a Strategy — It's a Starting Point

Posting more isn't the same as being seen. The difference between activity and visibility is where careers are won and lost.

There’s a comforting belief among ambitious athletes: if I just post enough, someone will find me. Keep uploading clips, keep grinding the algorithm, and eventually the right person scrolls past.

It almost never works that way. Not because social media doesn’t matter — it does — but because posting and being seen by the people who decide are two completely different things.

Activity is not the same as visibility

Uploading a clip puts it in front of whoever already follows you: friends, teammates, people from your area. That’s a real audience, but it’s rarely the audience that changes your career. A scout in another city, an agent building a shortlist, an analyst at a club — they are not organically scrolling onto your account.

You can be extremely active and still be invisible to the exact ten people who could open a door. Effort and outcome have quietly come apart.

The algorithm optimises for engagement, not opportunity

Social platforms are built to keep people watching, not to route talent to decision-makers. The clip that gets the most likes is often not the clip a scout most needs to see. Chasing reach can pull you toward content that performs socially and proves nothing professionally — the highlight-reel goal instead of the defensive masterclass.

Visibility is deliberate

Being genuinely seen is not an accident you wait for. It’s a decision you execute:

  • The right content — footage that proves your level, not just footage that gets reactions.
  • In front of the right people — placed, shared and positioned where opportunity is actually looking, not left to chance.
  • With a profile that holds up — so when attention does arrive, what they find makes them stay.

Instagram is a brilliant starting point. It’s where your content can live and where a first impression can be made. But treating it as the whole plan is like training hard and never entering a competition — all that effort, aimed at no one in particular.

Turn the starting point into a strategy

At MA8, we build the layer that social media alone can’t: a professional identity, content designed to be believed, and the deliberate work of getting it in front of the people who make decisions. Your Instagram becomes one channel in a plan — not the entire plan itself.

Keep posting. But don’t confuse it with being seen.

Register with MA8 and let’s build the strategy underneath the posts.

Your next opportunity is watching.

Make sure it likes what it sees.
